Image result for full size pickup trucks

Human males are finding it increasingly difficult in the modern world to manifest their masculinity in the ways of yore –that is, with conspicuous displays of courage, command, and cunning – so they have taken to doing it in a more-indirect way, specifically by associating themselves with various symbols and surrogates of masculinity, including big, bad-ass, black-and-chrome pickup trucks. Leaving aside whether there is any evidence to support the efficacy of this approach, we can get at least an inkling of the cost of it. In 2018, the average sale price of a big, bad-ass, black-and-chrome pickup truck was $48, 377. In contrast, the average sale price of a 2018 Honda Fit was $18,855. If a 45-year-old, kick-ass male were to invest the difference between these two figures (let’s call it an even $30,000), at a conservative compounding rate of 7.5 percent per annum, over a period of 25 years, the principal at age 70 would amount to $182,950 – a goodly part of a comfortable retirement. (Do they teach this kind of ‘rithmetic in school?)
